Rock and Roll Recital in the News:

Oakland A's scorekeeper gets musical (Oakland Tribune)

Press Release:

Danville, CA (April 1, 2008) Promoter Chester Farrow is pleased to announce the return of his annual Rock & Roll Recital to its home in Danville at the Village Theatre, 233 Front Street, Wednesday May 14. Showtime is 7:00 pm and doors open at 6:00 pm. The annual event is a showcase opportunity for 55 local guitar students from instructor and renowned musician Bruce Hock's guitar classes to perform on a big stage in groups, in an acoustic setting, as well as with house band Lindy's Kitchen. Tickets for the event are $30.00 ($20.00 for seniors 55 and over and children 18 and under) and are available at the Danville Community Center, 420 Front Street, Mon.-Fri. from 9 am-5 pm starting April 14. Tickets can also be purchased at www.villagetheatreshows.com or by calling 925-314-3400.

Farrow, a retired broadcast media school teacher from Monte Vista High School in Danville, produced many concerts at that venue's storied theater in his 32 years of teaching. Some of the shows included artists such as Huey Lewis and the News, Tom Johnston of the Doobie Brothers, Greg Kihn Band, Greg Douglas, Y & T, Journey, Joe Satriani and Boz Scaggs to name a few. Chester, in April, will also kick off his 40th year as scoreboard operator for the Oakland Athletics.

The Rock & Roll Recital was started at Monte Vista in 1999 as a showcase for Bruce Hock's guitar students. Hock, who is a fixture in the East Bay music scene, has taught guitar for 32 years in Danville and counts Dan Vickrey of the Counting Crows, Jason Hammon of the Dance Hall Crashers, and Kevin Feyen of the Black Eyed Peas as former students. Bill (Guermo) Muniz, owner of the New Mecca Café in Pittsburg, and his friend Daniel Zwickel will also perform. Muniz was inducted into the first Contra Costa Hall Of Fame class.

The event, for the first time, will be webcast, free, worldwide. Some of Farrow's former Monte Vista students will produce the webcast. These professionals have gone on to successful and lucrative careers in television and radio engineering, editing and directing as well as other careers in the entertainment industry. The webcast and concert production are made possible though generous donations by the Ledson Winery Harmony Foundation, The Oakland Athletics Baseball Company, Prime Time Productions, Sacramento River Cats President Alan Ledford and wife Ann, New Mecca Café in Pittsburg, CA. and Norine Seeno, Alamo, CA. The address for the Webcast is www.rockandrollrecital.com/webcast
